My Story

Desire2Win Mind-set Transformation Programme (TP) was Divinely Inspired. I felt strongly that a supernatural force led me to build this programme.

Derek Rydall, an American screenwriter, screenplay consultant, author, to name just a few, quotes 'The word 'desire' means of the sire or of the father. In other words, that strong impulse to achieve something is actually the 'something' already in you, seeking to come out! I couldn't have put it a better way.

As a young person, I wanted to win in everything I did. But I was failing miserably, academically, in relationships, having low self-esteem and self-worth, wanting to feel fulfilled, but didn't know how to. I tried to please others more than myself because I thought that would make me happy. But it didn't. I didn't see any real purpose in what I was doing.

Between the ages of 16-26, I had no identity and felt lost, living a life of what I felt was honourable. Entering a committed relationship at such a young age, not knowing who I was and what I wanted. Although I felt guilty and broken for leaving this safe environment, I felt a sense of freedom that I could now find myself. A few more detrimental mistakes and I landed a job, helping long-term unemployed young people find suitable training programmes and employment. Working with these youths gave me the fulfilment I needed.

Serving young people in this way became a passion seeing them change from having low self-esteem and a sense of unworthiness to achieving beyond their expectations. Someone believed in them, so they began to believe in themselves. Failure became 'you're not there yet, but you'll get there.'

As I saw these young people believing in themselves, I began to believe in myself. As they became successful; I found myself feeling that I, too, could become successful.

I vividly remember having a group session on interviewing techniques and CV writing skills. And during this training, I boldly declared if you follow these techniques you can find work anywhere. I saw the arched eyebrows in disbelief, so I said, 'OK, I will apply for a Saturday Job in Harrods of London, Knightsbridge using these same techniques and when I come back with my letter of employment, will you then believe me? I went for the job and got it. I was even surprised, so when the personnel asked where I wanted to work, I said, 'in the busiest part of this department store.' I soon regretted asking for that position. Working in the Restaurant had my feet begging me for mercy. But I was able to go back to work and show my clients the Harrods badge and the small green book I received after training. I continued serving disadvantaged vulnerable young people on a national scale working for a National Youth Charity travelling throughout England, Scotland and Wales; working with the hard to reach, youths at risk.  I didn't realize then I was helping them change the way they think about their possibilities while discovering myself and my potential opportunities.

I left school with limited qualifications but could enter university years later and obtain a Professional Honours Degree in Psychotherapies. And continue my Professional Development (CPD) without fear of failure or regret. How could this happen?

Fast forward to the past 7 (seven years), and I can now name what happened to the young people I served and myself. While training as a Dream Builder Transformational Life Coach, I read The Invisible Power by Genevieve Behrend, a French-born author and teacher of Mental Science. She writes, 'Whatever you think and feel yourself to be, the Creative Spirit of Life, is bound to faithfully reproduce in a corresponding reaction.' This statement allowed me to understand that mind-set transformation was what I was achieving and experiencing with these young people. I realize that our mind is the 'control centre' of everything and we have power over it.

I found learning about the mind in this way was remarkable. I had already learned about the mechanics of the mind through my training as a Brief-Psychotherapist. But now, I could develop a programme that focused on young people's needs and desires to help them manage their difficulties, supporting them in recognizing their capabilities to reach their full potential by exploring subjects that impact their daily lives.

Families became a necessary part of Desire2Win after working within the Criminal Justice System UK and internationally with vulnerable youths and parents. I saw the universal need for parental support in building healthy family relationships. Helping parents recognise other constructive ways to parent their children.

I invite you to join me weekly on an insightful journey into the seven themes of the Desire2Win Mind-set Transformation Programme (TP).
